Write to me.

This site exists because I couldn’t find another person who’d been through it. So if you’re going through it — or you love someone who is — I’d like to hear from you. Wherever you are in the world.

Before you write — if this just happened

If one side of your face has stopped working in the last few days, don’t wait for a reply from me. Get in front of a doctor today. The antivirals and steroids are on a clock and only a doctor can start them. I’m one guy with an inbox. Read Start Here instead — it takes four minutes and it matters far more than anything I’d write back.

Setting expectations honestly

What I can help with — and what I can’t.

I’d rather tell you this before you write than disappoint you after.

Happy to hear about

  • Your story. What happened to you, what it’s been like. Truly.
  • What I got wrong on this site — factual errors, bad links, anything unclear.
  • What’s missing. If you went looking for something here and didn’t find it, tell me.
  • Products or practices that helped you that I’ve never heard of.
  • Accessibility problems. If any part of this site doesn’t work for you, that goes to the front of the queue.
  • Press, doctors, and researchers — always glad to talk.

I genuinely can’t do

  • Tell you if you have Ramsay Hunt. I’m not a doctor. I can’t diagnose you and I won’t try.
  • Advise on your treatment — what to take, what dose, whether to stop something.
  • Look at photos of your face or eye. Please don’t send them; I have no ability to read them.
  • Predict your recovery. I don’t know. Nobody does, including your doctor.
  • Reply quickly, always. This is one person, and some weeks are harder than others.
Please don’t send me medical records

I’m not a health care provider, and nothing you send me is protected the way it would be with a doctor. Please keep test results, scans, prescriptions, and images out of your message. Take those to someone who can actually act on them. Full detail is in the Privacy Policy.

Three ways

However you’d rather do it.

An actual letter. I’ll be honest — nothing would make my week more.

If it’s easier, fill in the form. It reaches the same place, and telling me why you’re writing helps me get back to the right people first.

No wrong way to do this. If you’re two days in and terrified, just say that.

The thing I most want

Tell me your story.

When this happened to me, I went looking for one honest account from someone who’d lived it. I found clinical pages and frightened forum posts, and not much in between. That gap is the whole reason this site exists — and I can only fill so much of it on my own.

So if you’ve been through this, I’d like to hear it. What the first morning was like. What nobody warned you about. What helped, what was a waste of money, what you’d tell someone on day three. The stuff that only makes sense coming from someone who’s been there.

You don’t have to be recovered. You don’t have to be articulate. You don’t have to have anything useful to say — sometimes it’s enough just to write it down and have another person read it.

What happens to what you send

I will never publish anything that identifies you without asking you first, in writing, and getting a clear yes. If I ever want to quote something you wrote, I’ll come back and ask. If you’d rather I never quoted you at all, just say so in your message and that’s the end of it. Full terms are in the Terms of Service.

And if you’re writing for someone else — a partner, a parent, a child whose face has changed and who isn’t ready to talk about it — that counts too. You’re carrying a heavy thing as well.

The newsletter

Get the first-week guide.

Sign up and I’ll send you the first-week guide — what to do, what to ask for, and what to expect — plus the occasional note when there’s something genuinely worth saying. Which is not often. It’s free.

No spam, and I don’t email often. Personal experience, not medical advice. Your email stays private, and you can leave any time.

No goose gets left behind.

However long it takes you to write, and whatever you end up saying — it lands somewhere it’ll be read by someone who has been exactly where you are.

Ramsay Hunt Syndrome shares personal experience and is not medical advice.
